A proud veteran of World War II, Mr. Fox served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was active in the Reserves until 1955.  He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation, aboard the USS Cincinnati and the USS North Carolina, but was most proud of his service as a submariner on the USS Raton.  He was the recipient of two purple hearts, a Bronze Star and a Silver Star.

Mr. Fox attended Temple University and worked for Temple University Hospital from 1950 to 1956.  He joined the sales force for Ayerst Laboratories in 1957, where he worked until his retirement in 1985.

A dedicated public servant, Mr. Fox served as Hilltown Township Supervisor from 1992 to 1997.  He was a member of the Hilltown Planning Commission from 1975 until his death and had served as chairman of the Commission several times.  He had served as chairman of the Hilltown Recycling Committee, was a member of the Hilltown Lions Club and Hilltown Civic Association and a member of the Pennridge Area Planning Commission and Pennridge Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Fox was well known for his love of local history.  A foundering member of the Hilltown Historical Society, he served as president from 1975 to 2005.  He was a member of both Bucks and Montgomery counties’ historical societies.  Following his retirement, he opened an antique shop, Foxes Den of Antiquities, in Hilltown.  He was a member of the Religious Society of Friends, Doylestown Meeting.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Fox is survived by his children, Elizabeth, wife of Dwight Anderson, of Quakertown; Margaret Butler of Albuquerque, NM; Carolyn Muhlbauer of Sellersville; Douglas Fox and his partner, James Donovan, of Sunneytown and Emily Fox of Elizabeth.  He was the devoted grandfather of Kirk and Greg Horst, Ryan and David Anderson and Jason Muhllbauer.  He is also survived by a sister, Sondra Nones and her husband, Leonard, of New York City, and their children, Karen London and Margot Nones.  A brother, Bernard, preceded him in death.

A memorial reception, celebrating Mr. Fox’s life, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Arianna Miles, 243 Old Bethlehem Road, Haycock Township.  Interment will be held privately.
