Mr. King

To answer you question weather Ben Johnson or myself were on the bow/stern plane, I'm not sure but it could be either one of us, we were that good.

John:
I remember it well. Here we were just a sub with no experience (I had a lot from my days as an enlisted AE1 in a squadron in Hawaii) and we did a great job against all those aviators who did nothing but play. I know as I was one.

The Captain was very proud of us even though I told him we would win a couple, but would lose to the aviators. We did. That was at the tournament in Alameda. Refresh my memory. Was it you or Johnson who was on the stern planes with the Huk on the bow planes?

We were a heck of a team. I went on to command the Threadfin in Key West, three years in a Battle Group running ASW, X.O. Orion and Chief of Staff and Ops for SubGru 6 (boomers) in Charleston. Retired as C.O. of the Naval Research Center in Panama City Florida.

Still remember fondly all the great guys and experiences on Raton. Hope you all are health, prosperous and happy. Hope to be able to attend one of the reunions.

Mr. King

Good to hear your name again. It has been great to hear stories about the Raton. The memories of my time on The Raton[59/62] are some of the best memories of my youth. When we were in Mare Island we put together a great volley ball team from the spare parts guys, I still have the trophy on my desk that we won.

Happy Holidays
