07 AUGUST 2004 MESSAGE FROM SYBIL STOCKDALE
As some of you may not already know, Jim
is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease. Presently he does not suffer
from any other life-threatening physical disability.
If he could, he would wish to convey to all of you his enduring gratitude for
your unswerving loyalty and support throughout the tough years of Hanoi and
beyond - but he can't. So I take this occasion to speak for him. He came home
- frustrated with the outcome of the war - but nonetheless proud of the
conduct in captivity of the fine group of POW's with whom he was privileged to
serve. As many of you admired him, so also did he admire you! He would not
wish the opportunity to pass without telling you!
