VADM Bud Kauderer Hospitalized

VADM Bud Kauderer is currently at Scripp's Green Hospital in San Diego.  He and Mickey were on vacation recently (to Australia) and when he returned home he had a very bad case of the flu.  Several days after he returned (last Thursday) he felt bad enough to go to the hospital to see what was wrong.  He has been there since.  He has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome which is an auto-immune disease that is not very well understood but causes significant neurological weakness.  He is having difficulty walking and using his arms/hands for anything that requires strength.  He is absolutely mentally and psychologically intact.  He had me look up his disease and read him the articles...so he is pretty much operating as usual....except that he is very weak.  He had a spinal tap last night, and that with a number of other tests, has ruled out pretty much all but this Syndrome.  The articles (which stress that not much is really understood about this disease) indicate that it may take awhile for him to regain his health.  At this point, his doctors are not providing him with any concrete plan for getting well to going home.

The address at the hospital is:   Scripp's Green Hospital, 10666 N. Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla, CA  92037. His room is Suite 327
