Raton.....Target AGSS 270

Off San Diego 1964-65

I was starboard lookout, the water calm,blue and it was just a super nice Southern California day.

I reported a contact just on the horizon, a tin can or cruiser, I never had a chance to find out.

We saw two flashes from the gray object, then overhead a whistle, then two splashed on the port bow.

Clear the bridge.....clear the bridge, emergency dive, emergency dive, I never touched the ladder on the way down. One second I was standing next I was sitting.

The only story I heard was that we were crossing a target range and our sail looked like a target.......

Of course we (the lookouts) were instructed that it never happened and not to talk about it.
