1. CAPT Keith M. Bunting, USN (Ret.)
The Washington Post reported yesterday (12/30) that Keith M. Bunting Sr., 66, a retired Navy captain who had been a project manager with Computer Sciences Corp. in Northern Virginia since 1984, died Dec. 27 at his home in Herndon. He had a heart ailment.
Capt. Bunting, who had lived in Herndon for 26 years, was a Philadelphia native. He was a 1958 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and had attended the Naval Submarine School.
He spent the bulk of his career aboard destroyers and submarines, including a tour from 1973 to 1976 as commanding officer of the nuclear-powered ballistic missile Abraham Lincoln.
He served in the office of the chief of naval operations from 1976 to 1980. He was assigned to the Office of Strategic Systems Project Plans and Programs when he retired from active duty in 1984.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Bonnie N., of Herndon; two sons, Kevin, of Charleston, S.C., and Keith Jr., of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Kristen Bunting of Charleston, and Kerrie Wilson and Kathryn Bunting, both of Herndon; two sisters; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held this morning, 12/31, at St. Timothy's Church, 432 Van Buren St. in Herndon. VA at 1100. A graveside service is scheduled for Arlington Cemetery on January 16, 2003. The time will be announced when it is confirmed.
