Subject: Raton's tipsy maneuvering watch

(San Diego 1964-65)

Now set the tipsy maneuvering watch.

We were tied up at the Admiral Kid Club in San Diego when we were ordered to move to Sub Base Pt. Loma in the afternoon.

Only one problem.

Most of the crew went over and did what they did in Ocean Beach for lunch (Chiefs included).

I was new to the boat and crew so I was just a sober observer. It turned out to be a very fun maneuvering watch. Everyone was pulling together to do the best job they could under the circumstances, while our Captain, XO, and Officers STEAMED to Point Loma.

The Raton's wake was something to see and be proud of..........NOT.

After that day new rules came out about lunch, and ship readiness (Chiefs included).
