WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced April 12 that the president has nominated Navy Rear Adm. Kirkland H. Donald for appointment to the rank of vice admiral with assignment as commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, and commander, Submarine Allied Command, Atlantic, Norfolk, Va.

Donald is currently serving as commander, Submarine Group Eight; commander, Allied Submarines, Mediterranean; and commander, Task Force 69, Naples, Italy.
