LCDR Ned E. Dixon, USN (Ret.) has Passed Away

Lieutenant Commander Ned E. Dixon, USN (Ret.), passed away on 25 January 2003 at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC, after a short illness. Following graduation from the Naval Academy in 1957, he reported to the USS Preston (DD-795) and had two tours in WESTPAC before being ordered to Submarine School in 1958. After Sub School he served on the USS Amberjack (SS-522) and then earned a BS in engineering electronics at the USNPGS in Monterey. He later served on the USS Thomas Jefferson (SSBN-618), as executive officer of USS Thor (ARC-4), and in submarine communications new development at COMOPTEVFOR in Norfolk. He retired from the Navy in 1976 and worked on submarine programs for Tracor, ELS, and Analysis and Technology in the DC area until 1996 when he retired from industry.
Ned is survived by his wife, Doris, and son, David, both of Gaithersburg, MD; his daughter, Elizabeth Compton, his son-in-law, Brad Compton, and his grandson, Angus Compton, of Charles Town, WV; and two sisters, Jean Appleget and Judy Cook, both of Atlantic County, NJ.
