Francis Paul "Gunner" Signore, CSC/SS, United
States Navy, Retired, WWII Submarine Veteran, of Reno, NV., passed over July
12, 2005 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Reno, NV.
He is preceded in death by brother Stephen Signore and sister Carmela Orso.
He is survived by wife Zola B. Signore; daughter, Ernestine Rich and long
time caregiver and dear friend, Elaine Kaufman, all of Reno. Also survived
by sisters; Rosemary Mastriano of Waterbury, CT., Margaret Paolucci of
Wollcot, CT., Nell Paterno of Brooklyn, N. Y., numerous nieces, nephews,
family and friends; A special thanks to Don & Terry Brown of Reno and Lesley
Campbell of Sparks for their kind assistance.
Gunner was born 1-23-23 to Margaret Marzano & John Signore, now deceased. He
joined the Navy December 10, 1940 and qualified for Submarine Service. He
made many War patrols in the Pacific during World War II and visited
numerous countries through out the world on the USS S-13, USS Raton, USS
Blackfin, USS Rock, USS Grenadier, USS Sealion, USS Quillback and was a
Plankowner of USS Blackfin and USS Grenadier. He was a life member Holland
Club and belonged to United States Submarine Veterans Inc. and Subvets WWII,
Fleet Reserve Association, Corvina Base, and Life member VFW.
He retired from the Navy in 1960 and owned and operated the A & W Restaurant
in Davis, CA., and he and Zola moved to Fallon, NV in 1965 and owned and
operated Bob's Root Beer Drive-In, Retiring again in 1994.
Fleet Reserve Association Military Graveside Services will be July 21, 2005
at 11:00 AM at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley,
NV. The family would like to thank the special TCU VAMC Reno Nurses Jeanne
Clark, Ali & Pearl for the Loving Care during his last week.
