Captain Gary Bethke, USNR (Ret.) died on June 14, 2003 after a short illness in Olalla, WA. 

A Celebration of his life was held Saturday, June 21 at the Olalla Community Club at 2:00 p.m. on Olalla Valley Road. Gary graduated from the USNA in 1970 (appointed from Idaho), served for 9 years on active duty and 13 years as a Naval Reservist.

On active duty Gary served on Trepang, Commander Submarine Group 2, (NR1) and was Engineer on Guitarro. 

In the Reserves Gary held a number of positions including command of several units. 

Gary retired in 1995 as a Captain. He owned his own nuclear related consulting company (COMEX) and was well know within that community.

Gary is survived by wife, Laura; daughter, Darby and son, Zachary.
