CAPT Frank N. Shamer, USN (Ret.)

CAPT Frank N. Shamer, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Redwood Terrace Retirement Home. Born April 30, 1915, in Philadelphia, he lived in Escondido for 2 1/2 years. Graduating from the Naval Academy with the class of 1937, he served in submarines, commanding QUEENFISH in WWII and later BARB.  He golfed and could shoot his age. He was a math teacher at St. Thereseís Academy in San Diego for 13 years. He was a volunteer at St. Dunstanís Episcopal Church.

Mr. Shamer was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Shamer, in 1996. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Kay L. and Glen S. Keith and Clare S. Miller, all of San Marcos, and Gail Hornbeak of Encinitas; niece Linda Sebastian of Newport Beach; nephews Ralph Butterfield of Minnesota, Dan Butterfield of Virginia, and Dave Butterfield of Washington; and grandchildren Jim, Mary, Brian, Mark, Marie and Kirsten.

A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with full military honors. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at St. Dunstanís Episcopal Church, 6556 Parkridge Blvd. in San Diego.
