CAPT Charles Dunbar Bean, USN (Ret.)
CAPT Charles Dunbar Bean, age 64 of Youngstown NY, died Wednesday November
17, 2004 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara
Hospice.
Mr. Bean was born July 21, 1940 in Alton, IL. He received his B.S. from Ohio
State University in 1963 and he entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 11, 1963. He
served in the Navy for 26 years until his retirement on September 30, 1989.
He attained the rank of Captain and his last command was the USS Hunley,
(AS-31), a Submarine Tender. Mr. Bean had also served aboard ballistic
missile submarines as a navigation officer.
Mr. Bean married Martha (Davis) Bean on January 6, 1990. After his
retirement from the Navy he was employed as a Power Plant Manager for two
plants operated by North American Energy Services; the Lockport Cogen
Facility in Lockport which was operated and maintained by Lockport Energy
Associates; and the Fortistar North Tonawanda Plant which was operated and
maintained for Fortistar Capital, Inc. of White Plains, NY. Mr. Bean enjoyed
working with the employee's at both of these plants.
Mr. Bean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. He
loved to read, was a historian, and enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. An
avid sports fan, he especially followed the Ohio State Buckeyes and the
Cleveland Browns.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Charles E.
(Jennifer) Bean of Milford, MI, Rebecca M. (Kirby) Roberts of Columbus, OH,
and Katherine A. Bean of Fernandina Beach, FL; a brother, Edwin (Virginia)
Bean, Jr. of Fallbrook, CA; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by
his former wife Barbara Jo Bean of Fernandina Beach, FL.
Friends may call Saturday from 7 - 9 PM at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth
& Ridge Streets, Lewiston. Funeral Services will be held Sunday November 21
at 2:00 pm in the First Presbyterian Church Of Youngstown, 100 Church St.,
Youngstown, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Lamb officiating. Memorial
contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY
